On 13th July 2016, Edgis community member Lai Xin Chu set up a booth, and conducted a cybersecurity awareness talk to engineering students from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in conjunction with the School of Engineering's annual Project Showcase.
NYP’s School of Engineering Showcase
The theme of the showcase is “Hackers and Protectors”. During the showcase, Year 2 students will be showing their videos on various hacking/testing techniques, and Year 3 students will be demonstrating their proposed solutions to secure a typical corporate network.
Edgis’s Cyber Security Awareness Booth (3pm – 5pm)
Edgis members will introducing some of the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities that are inadvertently introduced by programmers who are not aware of these vulnerabilities. This content is specifically targeted at aspiring engineers who are just getting warmed up with programming.
Edgis’s Cyber Security Awareness Talk (5.15pm – 5.30pm)
Warming up to the Showcase Prize Presentation, Edgis member – Lai Xin Chu – will be giving a talk, to share how a user can be made susceptible to malicious content on trusted sites over the Internet due to the vulnerabilities introduced at the booth, and the dangers of running untrusted software on the Internet.
